Waiting at the Window

Waiting at the Window

A reused excuse

And another empty promise

I've given up on waiting

At the living room window

With my shoes on

And my bag packed

The humiliation was only the beginning

of the little girl’s problems

As she grew up

It became more and more obvious

She didn’t have the only man

She needed

He should've been there

Taking pictures on her first day of school

And her last first day of high school

Telling her that he loves her and congratulations

Instead he doesn't show up

And doesn't call or text

And all of a sudden

I'm the little girl waiting at the window again
