April’s Athlete of the Month: Maddie Arthur

April’s Athlete of the Month: Maddie Arthur

Congratulations to April’s Female Athlete of the Month, Maddie (Mad Dawg) Arthur! Maddie is a current junior here at Hamilton and a member of the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team. Last season Maddie helped to lead the team to their first ever GMC conference win! Along with this, Maddie earned First Team All Conference recognition as well as being voted by her teammates as MVP.

Gabby Weisgerber speaks very highly of Maddie stating, “Mad-Dawg Arthur should be Athlete of the Month every single month! She is one of the most hardworking and talented players I know. Maddie is always giving 100% and is able to push others and motivate her teammates so that they want to give their full effort as well. Her competitive drive and knowledge of the game also inspire me just as much as her talent on the field! I’m so proud of all the work she has put into the Ham Girls’ Soccer Team and am excited to continue the season with an amazing teammate on and off the field!”

How long have you played soccer and why do you play?

I've been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. I've enjoyed playing soccer my whole life and I play because I love the sport and my teammates. I would not enjoy soccer nearly as much as I do without my amazing teammates.

Who is your athlete role model and why?

I would say that my brother is my athlete role model. He played college soccer which is what inspired me to want to play college soccer as well. Also, I would play soccer with him growing up and he would always be better which pushed me to want to get better.

What is your main goal this season?

My main goals this season are to help my team win and to enjoy my time with the seniors before they leave.

What are your future plans involving soccer?

I am committed to playing Division 1 soccer at Old Dominion University.

Do you play any other sports and if so what?

No, I don't really have time for other sports because of soccer.

Do you have any teammates, coaches, parents, or other people in your life that have helped as an athlete?

My parents have always encouraged me and been there for me. They would drive me to all of my games and practices and I wouldn't be the player I am today without them. Additionally, my teammates have always been super supportive and kind. A few are Riley, Gabby, Courtney, and Izzie, but I love all of them.

Besides soccer, what are some of your other hobbies?

I love to go on walks, bake, and hang out with my friends when I'm not playing soccer.

What are your pre-game rituals?

I don’t have any specific pregame rituals, but I always listen to music before games.
