The student advisory council met on June 1 during advisement with Mr. Bauer for the final time this year. The following is a summary of the agenda items discussed between Mr. Bauer and the students involved in the student advisory council.

High School Social: Recap

Students generally noted that the quality of the social had improved when compared to the previous year. They specifically noted that the increase in food trucks, change in duration of the event, and creation of the Survivor challenge helped make the social more successful. Issues that were brought up to improve on for next year included having more designated seating/shade, advertising, and yard games.

Improving Social Events

Another issue brought up was how to make social events more appealing for upperclassmen to attend. Students considered ideas such as creating a new dance, including more activities in the cafeteria during homecoming, having grade-level competitions, and switching the time of when the homecoming king/queen are crowned. Some potential changes specific to prom included changing the cost of tickets, not having dinner at the venue, and creating a theme for the dance. Another idea that was brought up was creating a new social event that would occur towards the end of the year, where students could hang out on the football or soccer fields and enjoy games, food, and a bonfire.

Hamilton Laser Tag Hunger Games Concept

One idea brought up by Mr. Bauer himself for a new fundraiser was a Hunger Games-inspired laser tag duel to raise money for the school. While details about what the potential event would look like are still uncertain, the general idea had the game being held at night within the school. Teams would be created (either through voluntary signup, a “reaping,” or grade level quotas) and pay to compete on the night. Anybody who does not want to compete in the game but would like to spectate can pay to sit in the theatre and watch the game unfold through the hallway camera livestreams. While the idea was still a concept, Mr. Bauer and the council brought up other features to include in the game to make it more entertaining, such as Mr. Bauer being deemed the “gamemaker”, booms over the loudspeaker for player eliminations, a march of champions, and certain rooms giving players various power-ups.
