Congrats to March’s Male Athlete of the Month, Haden DeVorse! DeVorse is currently a senior here at Hamilton and throws shot for the boys varsity track and field team. At the team’s first indoor meet of the season, the Nelson/Daniels Classic (Large School Division) at Whitewater University, he placed 7th, throwing an impressive 48’ 7.25”. The team's next meet is Conference at Brookfield East High School on Wednesday, March 25!

Coach LeRoy speaks highly of DeVorse, stating, “He works hard; he's really aggressive. He obsesses. I think that's why he's gotten really good at shot put this last season. All winter he made his own shot put ring so he could practice in the athletic center. All of his hard work is starting to pay off. He got 7th at a big meet last weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins at conference this week.”

Congrats to DeVorse; read more to hear from him:

How long have you thrown for and why do you throw?

I have thrown shot put for all four years of high school!

Who is your athlete role model and why?

My athlete role model is Ryan Crouser. This is because he has won multiple gold medals in this event; he set multiple records, and is who I strive to be like.

What is your main goal this season?

My main goal for the season is to throw 55ft in shot out and go to State!

What are your future plans involving throwing?

My future plans for throwing is to potentially throw at college or coach in the future.

Do you play any other sports or participate in any other activities?

I played football all four years at Hamilton; I was also in the winter play.

Besides track, what are some of your other hobbies?

I enjoy playing cards, hanging out with my friends, cooking/baking and going to sporting events.

What are your pre-meet rituals?

My pre-meet ritual starts the night before where I do a lot of stretching, then I get to the meet where I warm up and stretch my shoulder using the collegiate shot.

Do you have any teammates, coaches, parents, or other people in your life that have helped as an athlete?

I would like to shout out coach LeRoy for being that guy in my high school experience for track and football; I would also like to acknowledge my older brother Mason and all of the trainers.
