Sudan is a developing country in the northeastern region of Africa that is going through a civil war inflicting genocide, displacement, and voilence upon its innocent people and families. This war is considered the largest humanitarian crisis in the world and is actively causing Sudanese residents to flee their homes in panic and disarray after a war between various armed militia groups and what is left of the Sudanese government.

The civil war in the country started in April of 2023, following the overthrowing of the military-civilian government in 2021 by a coup. This coup consisted of two generals, General Burhan and General Dagalo. Soon after 2021, the two would begin to clash and disagree on the direction in which the country was going. This would cause the separation of the coup into a group of armed forces: SAF, led by Burhan, residual from the 2019 government, and RSF, led by Dagalo.

Now and more recently, RSF is considered a rebel group committing genocide and mass killings across Sudan. They have control over the Sudanese border between Libya and Egypt as of June 2025 and are the main group of attackers responsible for the mass killings of Sudanese citizens. It has been reported and said by multiple sources and reporters that the killings are based purely on ethnic appearance and belief. One student of a university in Sudan, Hassan Osman, says, “If your skin is light, they might let you go. It’s purely ethnic.” He also stated that citizens and students with darker skin were more often faced with racial insults and physical abuse.

In regards to belief, Sudanese Christians are being targeted and victims of mass killings. These killings are so brutal and violent that from Google maps, you can see the piles of bodies and blood stained dirt from the Sudanese citizens that were unjustly killed by members of RSF. Christians were told, “Renounce Jesus or STARVE” in a brutalist Islamic repression campaign and nearly 15,000 Christians have died in the war between RSF and SAF while an additional 15 million have fled their homes.

Hundreds and thousands of Sudanese people are seeing their families being killed, assaulted, and beaten in front of them all while having to deal with the ongoing famine in their country. The struggles of children and families across the world is important and needs to be advocated for, and everyone can help. This can be done by simply doing research and making videos or social media posts about it, or donating to organizations that support and fund the families of Sudan. These are foundations like UNICEF, IRC, and/or MSF. Any amount of support will help the citizens of Sudan being abused and killed.
