McKenna Beaulieu is December’s Musician of the Month! Beaulieu is a senior this year and is the choir president of Hamilton’s Choir Program! Alongside this, she is a soprano singer that sings in A cappella, Concert Choir and a section leader for Synergy Showchoir.

Sophomore singer Solana Encarnacion-Washington admires Beaulieu’s work in the choir program. “Kenna is an amazing section leader. She always makes sure that even the struggling kids know what they’re doing. She’ll go over something as many times as you need it. She’ll always be willing to help you. She is an amazing person to be the choir president; I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Congrats to Beaulieu! Read more about her below.

How long have you been a part of choir?

I’ve been in choir since technically fourth grade, but all my four years in high school. I continue to do it because it’s literally my favorite class ever. There’s an amazing sense of community and family even though there’s 70 of us in one class, which is a lot. We all bond together and it’s really great to see. Choir is just such a big part of my life.

What piece of advice would you give to someone who is considering doing choir/Synergy?

I would honestly say just go for it. Trying out for Synergy can be really scary. I know I was scared when I tried out last year, but you’re going to ask yourself “What if?” if you didn’t do it. If you didn’t get into Synergy, there’s still choir that you can 100% be in.

What are some activities that you are involved in outside of choir and Synergy? What hobbies do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I do lacrosse, and that started last week and is two days a week. I work five days a week. I do marathons, so I train for those. I hang out with my friends and my boyfriend a lot, I weight-lift, and just stay active.

How do you manage to balance all the activities that you are in?

With show choir, I always make sure I give my full commitment to everything. It’s unfair to try my hardest in show choir and not give it my all in lacrosse. I have a calendar that helps me.

What is your biggest accomplishment as a person?

My biggest accomplishment is probably just how much leadership I have. Since freshman year, it’s always been my dream to be that person who everyone can go to, and also be someone that Mrs. Troy can go to if she needs anything taken off her plate as well. Most days, if Mrs. Troy doesn’t feel like doing the warm-ups, I step in to do warm-ups. I’m also a section leader, so when we break into sectionals, I lead those and help my section feel as confident as possible.

What are your post-graduation plans after high school?

I’m committed to UW-Oshkosh, and I’m going there for kinesiology. I’m planning on being in choir there. I’m thinking about playing flag football because they don’t have lacrosse in Oshkosh. I am also going to get my doctorate to become a physical therapist.
