May Teacher Feature: Ms. Al-Wathiqui

Nearing the end of her second year teaching, both at Hamilton and in total, Ms. Al-Wathiqui—more commonly known as Ms. A—graduated from UW-Milwaukee, where she received a Bachelor Degree in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies. She has three sisters, a twin brother, and four nieces and nephews, not to mention a cat named Kitten.

What would students be surprised to know about you?
I have a twin brother.
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
“The Real Slim Shady” - Eminem.
Describe yourself in one sentence.
Just trying my best.
What superpower would you like to have?
I would want to be able to read people’s minds.
If you won 100 million dollars what would you buy first?
A beach house.
What’s your claim to fame?
Saying something awkward, and then trying to undo what I said, and then making it worse (like right now).
What skill would you like to master?
I would like to learn how to play the guitar.
What would your perfect room/ classroom look like?
I would love to have windows.
If you could meet anyone in history who would it be and why?
I would like to meet Martin Luther King, Jr., because he was such an influential person who was able to persevere through incredibly difficult times.
What movie would you recommend to your students?
The 1995 classic Stand and Deliver.
What is the weirdest thing you have done to get your students attention?
Playing a pretend trumpet.
What is the best advice you have received?
You have to laugh to keep from crying.
What fictional character best represents you?
Stitch from Lilo and Stitch.
What Crayola Crayon color are you? (The more specific the better!)
I would have to say a pacific blue.
Are there more wheels or more doors in the world?
Well…there sure are a lot of wheels. There are also a lot of doors…
What weapon would you carry during the Zombie Apocalypse?
Bow and arrow.
Who would you team up with and why?
For the Zombie Apocalypse I would team up with comedian Fortune Feimster. I don’t think we would make it very long, but we would laugh and laugh.
If you could go back in time to your childhood, what age would you pick to go back to and why?
I would pick elementary school, because the cold didn’t make me grumpy and I could spend hours playing in the snow.
What do you wish you’d invented?
Crayons.
What is something you collect?
White T-shirts signed by Caitlin Clark.
Favorite book?
I know it’s a sad one but A Child Called It.
