Girls' Lacrosse: Senior Spotlight

The Hamilton Girls Lacrosse team is in its second year under a new coaching team and is making strides in the lacrosse world. This team didn’t have the most successful season on paper, but the improvement that this team has seen is incredible.

One example of this success would be with varsity’s brand-new goalie, Maya Ashlock. The sophomore out of Germantown High School stepped into this season brand new to the sport and decided to play the most difficult position, where she would constantly be pelted with rubber lacrosse balls thrown at her at high speeds. Despite this, she decided to step in and became a hero on the team. Her hard work and dedication to getting better is the reason that she had over 100 saves this season alone. Her stats record this impressive season performance since she had a 0.486 save rate as well as being ranked the second-best goalie in the conference. Congrats, Maya!

Congratulations to all of the seniors of Hamilton Lacrosse this season!

Kenna Beaulieu

Midfield, Captain

How long have you been playing lacrosse?

What is your favorite memory from this season?

My favorite memory is when I shot on the wrong goal my freshman year and it's been a running joke ever since.

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

Don't be afraid, give it your all, make friends, be kind, and have fun!

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

Coach Gibbs!

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Kenna is the team’s midfield core. With her “never give up” attitude and overall aggression she leaves everything on the field every single game.

Hadley Hotchkiss

Defense

What is your favorite memory from this season?

My favorite memory has to be defense, always finding the fun and laughter amidst a tough game.

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

Don’t get discouraged. The sport is hard at the start, but as you practice and learn it becomes so much fun!

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

My dad. He has coached me most of my life and I wouldn’t be playing this sport if he hadn’t. He is the reason I play and the reason I have improved so much throughout my years playing. He has been tough on me, but my mom has been there to counter the hard losses with words of encouragement. I genuinely don’t know where I’d be without my parents.

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Hadley is the team’s defensive giant. Hadley’s love and knowledge of lacrosse are shown every day. Knowing the next play our opponents are going to run before it happens. She is constantly on every inch of the defensive arch, causing turnovers, intercepting the ball, and controlling the team’s transitions.

Evi Quast

Attack, Captain

What is your favorite memory from this season?

Laughing in the parking lot with T and Kenna about the terrible sunburn we all got.

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

Just relax and don’t put so much pressure on yourself. It will all work out if you just take a breath.

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

Kenna. We started this sport together and I like to think she played a great role in encouraging me to keep pursuing it.

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Evi is the team’s attacking leader. Evi’s determination to make something from any possession of the ball is unmatched, calling plays, moving players to a desired position, and pulling off assists and goals on repeat.

Claire Lockhart

Defense

What is your favorite memory from this season?

The announcer telling people to rise then accidentally playing the first couple seconds of a Kanye song.

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

It’s a really fun, chill sport that is easy to pick up as a new player. There are always new people joining the team so there are no worries if people are starting new.

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

My parents have always supported me through lacrosse.

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Claire is the team’s defensive brick wall. Claire is a machine, always in front of her attacker, stopping plays, not letting anyone past her, and never gives up to gain possession for the team, all while never looking tired.

What is your favorite memory from this season?

My favorite lacrosse memory from this season was senior night. That night was one that I have never seen us play so well and work so well as a team. Although it was a sad night for us seniors, I am so proud of my team for how we played. It was an incredible experience to watch everyone work as one unit rather than a bunch of individuals.

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

It can be very difficult to pick up lacrosse since there are so many technical skills and the rules are difficult, but don’t give up! There are so many people who pick lacrosse up throughout their high school career and have so much fun. It is a great community and I highly recommend it!

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

I want to thank all of my coaches, Gibbs, Kate, and Haley. All three of my coaches have been my rocks these past two years and I cannot thank them enough. They have all been there to support me through hard times both on and off the field. They are also all very understanding when it comes to me being in multiple different activities. They are the highlight of the team!

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Emma is the team’s fearless attacker. Emma is the type of player to surprise you every time she touches the ball. She is able to score from angles that aren’t imaginable over and over again.

Germantown Seniors

Brooke Jakubowski

Defense, Captain

What is your favorite memory from this season?

Walking the track before a JV game and talking with whoever joined.

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

Go for it! This team is the least cliquey team I’ve ever been a part of and I love it. Not only is it super fun but it’s also a great opportunity to meet some awesome new people.

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

I’d like to thank my parents for being at every game and always making me food even when I come home really late.

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Brooke is the team’s last line of defense. She is our backer and if anyone gets past our defensive players Brooke is there to stop them in their tracks. She is never tired, she could play every minute of every game all season and still be ready for the next competition.

Cassie Zarder

Defense

How long have you been playing lacrosse?

What is your favorite memory from this season?

Everyone protecting our seniors from nerf guns as we leave the team dinners!

What would you say to someone who wants to try out for lacrosse?

Do it! Even if you're bad at it your team will help you improve quicker than any sport you have played.

Is there anyone who helped you through your lacrosse journey that you want to thank?

Thank you to Brooke Jakubowski for always being my lacrosse buddy and for persuading me to join!!

A message from Coach Gibbs:

Cassie is the team’s escape. She is our reliever. The heart and soul that Cassie has put into the team this season is unmatched. She leaves everything she has on the field game after game.
