One Campus, Every Court: Hamilton's Sports Fall Digest

Part I

Lauren DeGroot
When Autumn arrives there is much to look forward to. Pumpkin spice, apple picking, crunchy leaves…but if you are like me the most exciting thing is fall sports and Hamilton has so many to offer.  In Part I and II of this mini series, hear from a few athletes in each of our fall sports speaking about their seasons, teams, and memories.

Girl’s Volleyball:

Coming off of being State Champions, the girl’s volleyball team is looking to continue building their legacy and creating memories!

Molly Harrigan (Senior)

“Playing on Hamilton Volleyball is more than just playing with teammates; it's playing with my best friends and that makes having our ups and downs much easier to overcome.”

Madison McCauley (Senior)

“Hamilton Volleyball has been such a privilege to play for and I feel honored to be a small part of its legacy. It has meant so much for me to share some of my best volleyball memories with girls who have become my best friends.”

Lauren Miller (Senior)

“Hamilton Volleyball is special because the connections and friendships I have made have been some of my favorites and ones that are the hardest goodbyes.”

Lauren Netherey (Senior)

“Playing for Hamilton has given me more than just memories on the court. It's given me friendships and moments I'll carry with me forever.”

Boy’s Volleyball:

A brand new season brings brand new opportunities for another Hamilton team who has a State Championship in their recent past! Read what some of our seniors have to say as they reflect on their final season!

Ben Koch (Senior):

“I have made some of my best friends and created unforgettable memories playing volleyball. One moment that stands out is when we were in Green Bay for State. All year, we shared the same goal, but we never put too much pressure on ourselves and just had fun. Those three days in Green Bay I will never forget; we were obviously there for volleyball but at the hotel we spent so much time together playing games, swimming in the pool, and just enjoying time with each other. Obviously, the best moment was that Friday night when we beat Middleton in a 5 set battle to win State; it felt so good to be able to do it with that team as it just felt like a family. This year we have those same goals and I want nothing more than to have that experience again with these guys who I have been playing with for years.”

Corbin Meyer (Senior):

“Looking at this season is interesting. It obviously feels really different out there without having Ben Bayer as a leader, but we have a really strong senior class and some younger players that have stepped up. Our recent 5 set win against Tosa East gave me a lot of confidence in our team and our ability to compete in high pressure matches. We have always set high expectations for ourselves but I don't see any reason why we can't reach them this season. I think everyone in our program expects and is ready to work towards a deep playoff run this year.”

Charlie Mrotek (Senior):

“Growing up playing together created a bond that cannot be replicated. It simultaneously created a team that feels like a family or brotherhood. Being around people you enjoy makes the team stronger and will benefit us in our ride to State.”

Boy’s Soccer:

Soccer holds a special place in these boys’ hearts. Read for some memories and favorites surrounding the sport!

Darren Hill (Senior)

"I remember how it was when I first transferred to Hamilton and not knowing anyone. It was weird at first, but they took me in and made it feel like home and I loved it here ever since."

Sam Julka  (Senior)

"My favorite part about being on the team is the sense of belonging I get. I feel like I am on a team on and off the field because I can trust my teammates more than anyone."

Owen Gilles (Junior)

"Back when I was around 10 years old my team and I would play a game together during a practice and that practice would just be to have fun and bond with teammates. Those practices are part of the reason that I fell in love with soccer and those teammates and the teammates that I have now are part of the reason I still play today."

Jack Fischer (Senior)

"My favorite thing about playing high school soccer is our games under the lights. As a team our goal for the season is to make it to State for the program's first time since 2022."

Jackson Dosch (Junior)

“I've loved playing soccer ever since I was a kid because it's always brought me a feeling of peace and happiness. No matter what I'm doing or how I'm feeling, soccer sort of eases my worries and helps me to feel better from whatever might be holding me down. Soccer has also made me a bunch of lifelong friendships and I couldn't be more blessed with who I've gotten able to build a brotherhood with over my years in this game.”

Girl’s Swim and Dive:

Rocking the block and ready to dive, the Menomonee Falls/Hamilton Swim and Dive team is excited for their season!

Ally Gordon (Senior):

"As a captain this year, I am really excited for the team and what we can accomplish this season! We have even more depth than we did last year, including a lot of fast freshmen. The last two years we have been undefeated in our dual meets, been conference champions, and finished runner-up at sectionals. This year we are aiming for that next step as sectional champions!

One thing I love about the team is our traditions, especially our team cheer, “Don’t Mess.” We do it before every meet, along with doing the wobble as a team on the deck before we compete! This season, we also have Faith Johnson, an MFHAM and Hamilton alum, coming back to help coach us. She competed at the Olympic trials and swam Division 1 at the University of Minnesota. So we’re all really excited to have her back and get her perspective and experience this year.

Overall, I am really excited to see what this group can accomplish this season! We have a very strong team culture, and I think the support and energy we have for each other is what makes this team so special."

Sydney Johnson (Junior)

"What I love about the sport is it is individual in nature yet there is such a strong sense of community with our team and we always have so much fun together."

Kaylin Vosters (Senior)

“I love how our team is so supportive of one another. It makes the hard work and hours more enjoyable and helps everyone stay motivated!”

Girl’s Golf:

Hamilton girls golf shares their favorite things about the sport, including the camaraderie they’ve built as a team!

Elizabeth Berrall (Senior)

“Despite being an individual sport, my favorite thing about golf is how we all work together and encourage each other throughout meets and practice.”

Aubrey Poelzer (Sophomore)

“My favorite thing about golf is the community. Everyone is super sweet and even when bad rounds happen, your teammates are there to encourage you.”

Kinsley Moser (Senior)

“My favorite thing is how we are there for each other even outside of golf.”

Sidney Cruse (Junior)

“My favorite thing is supporting each other on the course and eating after rounds.”

Ella Backus (Senior)

“My favorite thing about golf is how supportive our culture is and our drive to make ourselves and others better on and off the course.”

Lily Maus (Junior)

“What I love most about golf is the caring and encouraging community I am surrounded by every day, making golf something I constantly look forward to.”
