The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is a heart-wrenching and riveting piece of literature that stirs up many emotions in its readers. The book is emotionally powerful and hauntingly familiar to many, and it preaches themes on racism, classism, and using your voice. A Novel Idea found the book compelling and ate up the story of Starr Carter. She was a brilliantly written protagonist, with real and relatable problems and feelings. While some of the subplots got redundant and seemed pointless, they emphasized that Starr is a normal girl who witnessed a heartbreaking and life-altering event. We believe that this is one of those books that everybody should read, as it gives a powerful message to readers and brings some events that are heartbreakingly brutal to light. The Hate U Give is an eloquently written book that is an important read for everybody, not just those who love to read.

5/5 “Starrs”: Highly recommend!
