Hout’s teammate and sister, Lauren Houts, says, “I’m so proud to call Grace my sister. When she first started playing rugby, this path to Harvard wasn’t something anyone expected. None of us knew anything about this sport, but her dedication and work ethic made it possible. Grace is a person who always shows up no matter what and that is the exact trait that has allowed her to follow her passions to Harvard.”

What do you intend to major in?
Chemical and Physical Biology (Pre-Med)
What is your favorite memory from playing rugby?
My favorite memory was competing in Nationals last year and getting to see our hard work pay off in our final game.
What is one lesson you have learned from rugby that has helped you in life?
Rugby has taught me the importance of community and belonging. Rugby is a very intense sport, but after every game, you get together with the other team and have a meal. There is a lot to learn about sportsmanship and community when you can play a physical game of rugby and then interact like friends afterwards.
What drives you as an athlete?
I am driven by a desire to see growth. Every game I want to see either an aspect of our game grow after leaving everything out there or growth in the team's relationships and identity.
What will you miss most about playing for Hamilton?
I am going to miss the community and people the most. The rugby team has been an integral part of me finding who I am through high school. Without the people around me on that team for the last four years, I wouldn't be who I am today.
What are you most excited about playing for Harvard?
I am very excited to join the incredible group of girls at Harvard. On my visit I fit in right away. Also, joining a three-peat NCAA Champion is very exciting because of the experience the team has.
What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone who is trying to play rugby in college?
Rugby can take you far. Work hard and watch the game. Game IQ will take you farther than any physical ability could.
Is there anyone you would like to shout out that has helped you in your athletic journey?
I would like to shout out all my coaches for pushing me, but more specifically my head coaches in both of my sports. Mac (rugby coach) has pushed me as a leader, person, and athlete. She is always there for the hard conversations. I also want to shout out Coach G (softball) for being a role model to me.
