Ally Gordon, a senior at Hamilton and a captain for MFHAM swim team, has recently committed to the United States Air Force Academy to swim. Gordon has been swimming for 14 years, four of which have been with our MFHAM swim team. She typically swims in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke.
Gordon’s friend and teammate, Kennedy Keepers (senior), says about her: “Ally is one of the most motivated and dedicated people I know, either in school, in the pool, or wherever else. Her hard work clearly shows off in her academic achievements as well as her swimming career. Just being around Ally creates a positive environment for hard work and success no matter the circumstances you are in.”

What are you planning on majoring in and what are your career goals?
I plan on majoring in aeronautical engineering. After I graduate I intend to fly, and hopefully fly fighter.
What is your favorite pre-game song that gets you ready to compete?
My favorite pre-race song is “Breakin’ Dishes” by Rihanna.
What is your favorite memory from swim?
My favorite swim memory is from my freshman year, when a bird flew into the pool area so we had to get out. We named the bird Giannis, and when we came back to the pool after leaving it there over the weekend, the pool deck was covered in bird poop.

What is one life lesson that you have learned from swim?
Swim has taught me what determination and commitment means to me. Along with that, failure isn’t the opposite of success; it’s a key ingredient.
What drives you as an athlete?
The opportunity to become the best version of myself possible drives me as an athlete.

Next year, I will miss my teammates the most. We have a very special team culture that is centered around supporting one another while also holding each other accountable. However, I am very excited to experience a similar one at the Air Force Academy.
