December's Teacher Feature: Mrs. Huber
Photo submitted by Huber
This month’s Teacher Feature is one of Hamilton’s newest additions! Having attended both Northern Michigan University and UW-Whitewater, this dedicated baker deserves to be celebrated! Please congradulate Mrs. Huber! She recently made caramel from scratch at her home in Nashotah, where she lives with her husband. When she’s not teaching, which she’s been doing since 2020, she loves to hike and cross country ski—camping and exploring the Ice Age Trail.

What would students be surprised to know about you?
I love observing and identifying birds. I think they are really fascinating and beautiful. Up close though—I am terrified of them. They move so fast and just freak me out.
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
Too many to count! I am going to see Hamilton this January, so those songs have been flowing through my mind lately.
Describe yourself in one sentence.
Making the most of each day.
What superpower would you like to have?
To feel relaxed in stressful situations.
If you won 100 million dollars what would you buy first?
If I won 100 million dollars, I would probably buy a house, a nice pair of sneakers, and a plane ticket to Greece.
What’s your claim to fame?
I pride myself on being a good planner—for trips, activities, anything!
What do you hope never changes?
I hope the State Parks and natural areas I visit continue to be around throughout my life. I love the outdoors as well as the parks and the staff that protect them.
What skill would you like to master?
I would like to learn to play guitar or banjo really well. I love the sound of both instruments and would like to be able to express myself through not just visual arts, but performing arts as well!
What would your perfect room/ classroom look like?
I would love a big open space with windows and access to an outdoor classroom space such as a courtyard. Having a separate area for a computer lab would be really cool for photo editing as well. Some speakers throughout the room for good music quality and plenty of space for supplies and creating would also be great!
If you could meet anyone in history who would it be and why?
I think it would be cool to meet a master artist/scientist like Leonardo da Vinci. Although I would probably have to learn Italian first.
What book or movie would you recommend to your students?
I really love the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life”. It is a good reminder of how rich and full our lives are, even during difficult times.
What is the weirdest thing you have done to get your students attention?
Probably singing…
What is the best advice you have received?
You can do anything—but not everything. Don’t stretch yourself too thin!
What fictional character best represents you?
Maybe an iconic fictional teacher like Ms. Frizzle—although I don’t have a magic school bus and I don't think I am quite as cool or adventurous as her, I try to make class fun and engaging.
What Crayola Crayon color are you? (The more specific the better!)
Tropical Rain Forest. It’s a cool, calming green color. I think it represents me well because green is my favorite color and I also love nature.
Are there more wheels or more doors in the world?
I am going to guess wheels!
Do you have any favorite projects/commissions you’ve done?
I painted a pretty cool landscape painting of Lake Superior when I was in college. I have always been fascinated by the Great Lakes and it was fun to honor them through a painting.
