February Teacher Feature: Mr. Bosley

This month’s featured teacher is a UW-Madison graduate who has been teaching for 27 years, 19 of which have been at Hamilton: it’s Mr. Bosley! He’s married with two boys: one is 25 and the other 21. They have a dog named Reggie and a cat who’s called Gym Shorts. When not sharing his love of history with Hamilton students, he loves running, biking, and reading.

What would students be surprised to know about you?
I was not an academically strong student in math or science…Actually, anyone who has been in my classroom probably knows this already!
What song do you know all the lyrics to?
“Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog from the 1979 Muppets Movie. I would sing this to my kids at night when they were young and I could do a very solid Kermit the Frog impersonation.
Describe yourself in one sentence.
I am a laid back human who is enjoying the short time we have on this planet
What superpower would you like to have?
[To] fly, of course!
If you won 100 million dollars what would you buy first?
100 million dollars of VTSAX (Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund) and turn it into 200 million dollars in seven years. Then we could have a really good time!
What’s your claim to fame?
In a previous life I was a three-time high school state champion in track & field and a two time NCAA Division 1 All-American in cross country and track & field at UW-Madison. Now I can barely run an 8 min mile.
What do you hope never changes?
My optimism about life and warm summer nights.
What skill would you like to master?
I would love to be able to play the piano.
What would your perfect room/ classroom look like?
An outside classroom that had no desks but did have a co-teacher…Mr. Heckman, of course!
If you could meet anyone in history who would it be and why?
I would like to go back in time with a sports almanac from the future and give it to me when I was in high school, assuming it didn’t lead me and my friend Emmett Brown on a quest to repair the space-time continuum.
What book or movie would you recommend to your students?
11/22/63 by Stephen King, which is about a middle school teacher who finds a portal in time and goes back to stop the JFK assasination.
What is the weirdest thing you have done to get your students attention?
Claim I am disappointed in them and walk out of my room, go to Kwik Trip and return with a snack. (One day I will do this).
What is the best advice you have received?

Marty McFly.
What Crayola Crayon color are you?
Red, because it is bright and bold, all things I aspire to be!
